MBA vs. EMBA What’s the difference

An Executive MBA is sometimes mistaken for being a superior version of its better-known counterpart—the MBA. In reality, theyre actually very similar in terms of content, prestige, and value to employers. But the two programs are delivered in different formats, require different levels of commitment, and serve different career aspirations. Comparing course length and schedule An MBA, short for Master of Business Administration, is a general management degree. There are one and two-year programs, but both tend to be full-time and require you to be on campus. At Hult, our Global One-Year MBA is completed over 12 months, with the option of studying on up to three of our global campuses. EMBA, short for Executive Master of Business Administration, is also a general management qualification. However, EMBA programs are typically done  part-time,  taking between two and four years to complete. The Global Executive EMBA at Hult is designed to be flexible, with some students completing the course in as little as 18 months. This full-time versus part-time study schedule is often thought to be the defining difference between an MBA and an EMBA. However,  there are many other differences to consider. Course structure and student lifestyle Because of the full-time nature of MBA programs, they require a big commitment in terms of a change in lifestyle. You will need to take a career break for the duration of the program and, if you’re attending a global business school like Hult, you may need to relocate to a different country. A full-time MBA is an immersive graduate experience that requires total commitment. EMBAs are not only part-time, they are usually designed to enable people to continue working as they study. How classes are scheduled varies from school to school, and the program that suits you best will depend on your work patterns and career goals. At Hult, our EMBA is delivered over one four-day weekend per month. To help you maintain your work/life/study balance, there are also opportunities to complete some modules online, or pause your studies should you need to. It amazed me how much we learned over a four-day weekend, not only from the theory but also the Hult approach to leadership. This really set the standard for the rest of the EMBA program. Dr. Toby Shepherd  Ã¢â‚¬â€œÃ‚  Ã‚  Head of EMEA Regional Medical Affairs, Pfizer Consumer Health  Ã¢â‚¬â€œÃ‚  EMBA Class of 2018 With an MBA, many students choose to relocate to wherever their school of choice is. But EMBA students are usually in full-time employment, so they are often more restricted when it comes to the location of the school. Our EMBA students tend to attend the campus closest to home, which  they can easily travel to once a month.  However, having the option of attending multiple campuses around the world is often a big benefit for Hult EMBA students who frequently travel abroad for work, or want to gain on-the-ground international experience. The flexibility of the EMBA route can mean considerably less impact on your regular lifestyle—although balancing work, personal life, and studies does come with its own challenges. Differences in age and professional experience One simple difference between an MBA and Executive MBA program is the profile of the students. EMBA students tend to be slightly older, with  more years of senior-level professional experience on their resumes. Heres a breakdown of the average age and experience of Hult MBA and EMBA candidates: This difference in seniority plays a big part in how students engage with the course content and can steer classroom discussion. It’s important to consider where you fit best when choosing a degree program, as your peers will become an invaluable part of your professional network. Networking is key in today’s global business world, and the program has allowed me to expand my network and gain new, valuable business contacts. This has opened many doors, and will open many more in the future. Alessandro Banzer Liechtensteiner – CEO, Xiting – EMBA Class of 2017 Admissions requirements As EMBAs are geared towards working professionals with more extensive experience, EMBA admissions teams look for a varied professional background and managerial experience. Its assumed that applicants will already have a certain level of business knowledge picked up over their career, so there is not so much emphasis placed on entrance exams. For most full-time MBA programs, only three years of work experience is required. However, a GMAT (or equivalent) score will usually be part of the MBA admissions criteria. Curriculum differences MBA and Executive MBA programs generally cover the same core content and aim to develop or advance similar skills. At Hult, MBA and EMBA students engage with the same fundamental topics in their core courses. Both programs also offer the option of specializing by taking electives in a particular business area, such as marketing, finance, entrepreneurship, project management, or business analytics. On our MBA program, students have the opportunity to apply the theory learned in class through practical projects, like the Hult Business Challenge. Our EMBA students take part in challenge learning  too. But they also have the opportunity to apply their learning straight away in the workplace—meaning lessons learned have immediate professional value. Career goals Often, MBA students are looking to make some kind of change in their career—be it a change of location, industry, or function. Therefore, their focus is firmly on gaining employment upon graduation. At Hult, we are also seeing more and more MBA grads pursuing a career in entrepreneurship and starting their own businesses. In fact, 8% of our most recent graduating class launched their own business after Hult. The motivations for Executive MBA students are more varied. Some are actively looking to change career or secure a new job, while others are looking to progress at the company theyre at. Some might be looking to keep their skills current, while others are simply embracing an opportunity for  professional and personal development. It’s important that the school you choose offers the right career development opportunities to support your goals. If youre interested in learning more about the career outcomes for recent Hult grads, you can download our latest Global Careers Report. The most significant impact of the program for someone at my level is that the EMBA has made me ‘current’ in my knowledge. It has also widened my perspective. Tina Oberoi  Ã¢â‚¬â€œ Chief Operating Officer, Retail Lals Group (GCC) – EMBA Class of 2017 Fees, financing, and return on investment The fees for both programs are usually fairly similar, depending on the school and the location of the program. The difference often lies in the options students have for funding their degree. MBAs are usually self-funded, although there are a wide variety of scholarships and financial aid  packages available through private companies and the business schools themselves. When it comes to course fees, full-time MBA students must also factor in living expenses and the cost of accommodation, taking into account that they wont be earning a salary for the length of the program. Fortunately, successful MBA grads usually see a fast return on their investment, as their new academic credentials put them in good stead for more senior roles. Executive MBAs, on the other hand, can often be funded—either partially or entirely—by their employer. Thats because employers benefit from the skills and knowledge gained, and many are happy to contribute to the professional development of their staff. Having said that, there is an increasing trend towards EMBA candidates self-funding their degree, with scholarships and financial aid also being available for these programs. Employer-sponsored students are generally required to commit a few years to the company upon graduation, so be sure you’re aware of the conditions if this is the route you take.  Whether employer-funded or self-funded, EMBA students will also be earning a full-time salary while studying, so studying for an EMBA can be somewhat less daunting financially. Hult EMBA grads can also benefit from serious ROI, with recent alumni reporting a salary boost of almost 50%. Investigating the Long-Term Effects of Physical Child...

Everyday there are children being abused by someone who is supposed to protect them. An estimated 905,000 children were victims of child abuse or neglect in 2006(Child Welfare Information Gateway, 2008). In 1996, more than three million victims of suspected abuse were reported to child protective services agencies in the United States (Baker, 2002). The numbers have changed and still many cases of abuse go unreported. The number of incidences of child abuse rises when the family is under stress, such as being in our economy. People who have been physical abused tend to have lower self-esteem. Studies have show that children wh o are physically abused are more likely to commit more violent crimes (Starr Wolfe, 1991). This shows a strong connection between abuse and delinquency. Looking at those who have gotten into trouble often see themselves to be bad, worthless, and deserving punishment (Kamsner McCabe, 2000). Leonardo da Vinci is one of the most well-known geniuses...

Leonardo da Vinci is one of the most well-known geniuses in human history. This man masters knowledge of all kind: painting, architecture, music, geology, philosophy, biology, math, physics, chemistry, etc. His probably most famous painting, Mona Lisa, fascinated millions of people around the world and the amazing and mysterious details in the painting attracted a number of scientists and scholars to devote their whole career in studying them. Born and lived in Italian Renaissance age, which is a period of time when arts flourished and knowledge was valued, Leonardo was surrounded by many great contemporary artists and a perfect creative environment. These favorable factors supported him to fully exercise his talents. As a writer,†¦show more content†¦One can tell his serious attitude toward this matter through his notes on painting: â€Å"It is indispensable to a painter, in order to be thoroughly familiar with the limbs in all the positions and actions of which they are capable in the nude, to know the anatomy of the sinews, bones, muscles, and tendons†¦ he may know which nerve or muscle is the cause of each movement†¦Ã¢â‚¬ 3 His support for realistic and naturalistic style of painting accord with the general theme of art pieces produced during Renaissance time. Renaissance paintings put emphasis on proportions and mathematic perspectives1. A good painting was supposed to look as real and vivid as possible. Leonardo’s works are perfect examples regarding this aspect. Through his notes, one can learn that Leonardo favors painting than any other forms of art. He believes that painting is most flexible, variable, and expressive in every way, whilst sculpture is stiff, cold, and â€Å"lacks many characteristics of nature;† and poem â€Å"tedious to understand.†3 From his written words, he pointed out that the eye is the central receptor of human and can appreciate the best. Therefore painting, which stimulates people through their eyes, can most easily convey ideas and resonate with viewers. Leonardo put extremely high value on painting. School Uniforms The New Change Of The World - 1840 Words

School Uniforms the New Change of the World Over the past few years many people have voiced their opinions on whether or not school uniforms should be a requirement in public schools. â€Å"This is because many school administrators, faculty, and some parents feel this is needed to put a stop to violence, improving discipline, resistance of peer pressure; while giving them back the sense of belonging† (Wilde, 1998, pg. 100). With the way students show up to school, they tend to break the school dress code by wearing; short shorts, t-shirts that don t cover the bust, or belly and gang related attire. That’s why school uniforms are a must in today’s society, due to the many different choices one makes when it comes to†¦show more content†¦Although, some feel this is still violating ones right to freedom of expression, through having a say it what they will; and can wear in the public sector. â€Å"There was a great article written by Jeffery Earl Warren regarding school uniforms (San Francisco Chro nicle, April 2, 2007). His ending statement reads: Uniforms allow children the right to distinguish themselves by the deeds they’ve done, not the duds they wear†. While parents today seem to be way to lax on what is appropriate attire in their book, compared to the schools guideline; it just shows that there is a need for support and encouragement when trying to encourage discipline in these youngsters. Parents seem to close their eyes to reality, and feel it’s the child’s right to wear what they like to school. Have they even taken the time, to pay close attention to what their child is actually wearing before heading off to school? Or, do they just close a blind eye to everything and leave it up to them to make their own choices. Whatever, happened to parenthood, taking control of situations such as these; and standing your ground with your child? Work Accident Injury - Falling From A Ladder - Case Study

Question: Describe about the main causes of ladder falls. Answer: Ladder fall case study: Ladders are ubiquitous and frequently used tools, both at home, as well as,in the work-place. According to the statistics conducted by U.S. Bureau of Labor, around 20% of all the incidents occurring in an occupation involve falls. It has been studied that the falls from ladders are increasing and is considered to be the second most common source of injury consisting of falls from the elevation, subsequent to falls on stairways. Moreover, it has been estimated that around 1-2% of the occupational injuries are due to the involvement of the ladders, commonly seen in the industrialized countries. Though the majority of physical injuries occurring from the ladder falls are minor, but domestic, as well as, occupational ladder associated trauma can lead to significant morbidity or mortality (Barnard, 2006). The Occupational Safety and Health Administration also called OSHA has ascertained that the ladders are one of the major sources of fatalities and injuries occuring among the constructio n workers where about half of these physical injuries are serious and traumatic enough that requires great time off from the work. It has also been observed that the older workers are at increased and particular risk for facing fatality. Further, it has been noticed that the falls that occurs from the ladders results around 20% of fatalities occurring due to the falls in the workers whose age is greater than 55 years of age. The rapid increase in the occurance of ladder associated injuries is one of the disturbing trends, most prominently observed in the light and area of age-related and dependent co-morbidities, which in turn affects the clinical course. The increase in the ladder falls are leaving men with horrific injuries to the spinal, brain damage, and even dead. Thus, sparking an urgent and necessary safety warning (Con et al., 2014). A study conducted by the Dr Helen Ackland who is the senior clinical research fellow showed the incidence of about 150 major traumatic cases that had occurred in a single period of five-years, and around alomost third of those patients were admitted in the intensive care unit. Further as per Dr Helen Ackland about Fifty-five percent of the ladder fall cases had severe traumatic brain injury, indicating that the patients would not be able to return to their daily and normal activities. Even he said that some of the cases included horrific spinal injuries that occurred due to the way they fell or where they fell and what they hit. These incidents included total 15 deaths, out of which one case was the death of the father of three children with the age of 50 years who suffered an injury causing a massive bleeding from his brain, which occurred after a ladder fall (Wang Wollin, 2004). The study conducted by Ackland evidenced that the victims of the ladder falls were predominantly men of more than the 50 years of age who were using ladders at their home. Moreover, a lot of those victims were engineers or tradesmen by their profession in their working life, however, they were not following and using the occupational health and safety rules while using ladders at their home. As per Dr Ackland studies, there was an increase of about 67 % of the incidents resulting from the ladder falls in between the period from 2007 to 2011 ("Death rate from falls on the rise", 2007). Main causes of ladder falls: Injuries occurring from the ladder fall is considered to be the persistent hazard occurring both at home, as well as, in the workplace. Extension-ladder fall cases can occur due to various reasons, amongst which the common causes resulting in these kind of incidences are incorrect setup angle of the ladder, inappropriate selection of the ladder, insufficient and improper inspection of the ladder, improper use of the ladder use, as well as, lack of access and knowledge of safety tools related to the ladder use and its information. The main cause behind the domestic ladder falls are due to the placement of the ladder on the surface that is uneven, loss of the balance, as well as, slipping on the rungs of the ladder or overreaching. The leading and main cause for the occurrence of injuries related to the ladder falls is the sliding out of the ladder at its base due to incorrect setup angle of the ladder, which is observed in around 40% of the cases (Diggs et al., 2005). It has been observed that the individuals working or using ladders tend to set their extension ladders at the angles that are shallower than the required optimal angle, which is at 75.5 degrees. Moreover, selection of the appropriate ladder having the proper and accurate duty-rating is oen of the critical step for avoidance of the occurrence of the structural failure. However, it has been seen that there is lack of proper knowledge and information related to the selection of the proper ladder among many individuals using and working on the ladders, which in turn results in the ignorance of the foremost and important step with respect to the safe use of the ladders. There must be regular inspection, as well as, maintenance of the ladders structure, which are considered to be the good practices that helps in reduction of the likelihood structural failure of the ladders (Dinh, Stark, Bein, 2012). However, easy, as well as, quick access to these ladder safety checklists are often not available on the regular basis. It has been observed that unsafe and inappropriate behavior of the user or worker using ladder is associated with the incidents resulting from the ladder falls. Othe r frequent causes related to the ladder fall injuries involves the activities like overreaching, application of excessive force, carrying objects, slips, as well as, missteps. Moreover, it is seen that the small companies, which accounts for around 80% of all the companies related to the construction, and individual users of ladders, like homeowners, do have access and do not receive the necessary training that is required for the safe use and working of the extension ladders. These kind of ladder users are hence difficult to reach, do not often have access to information relted to the safety, and generally are deficient of the resources that are required for the development, as well as, for following a program that is focused on an effective and safer use of ladders ("Injuries From Ladder Falls Draw Greater Scrutiny", 2014). Domestic and occupational ladder falls: Ladders are one of the frequently used products by the consumers in the domestic environments for carrying out day to day tasks and DoIt-Yourself. The studies have shown that the use of ladders attributes to the one of the highest and major risks invoving fall associated injuries and fatalities occurring within the domestic areas and environment. Moreover, the use of ladders by the consumers are most often causative agent for the DIY or DoIt-Yourself related deaths, as well as, hospitalizations. There has been a rapid increase in the injuries caused by ladder falls in the recent years, particularly occurring in the domestic environment (MacLaurin McConnell, 2011). Further, it has been observed that the injuries caused by these ladder falls have not been the attention or subject of any of the initiatives related to the prevention of the injury, despite the clear and concise gains in the reduction of the ladder associated falls and injuries occurring in the workplace with the help of strict and important rules and regulations, as well as, the preventative action (Cheng, 2014). No doubt, that there is strict rules and regulations alongwith proper information related to the use of the ladder at the workplaces, but still as per the studies conducted by the researchers of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, work associated falls resulting from the ladders resulted in 113 deaths. The study further showed that near about 20% of the injuries occurring from the occupational falls were caused due to the involvement of the ladders. It has been seen that most of the ladder falls occured in the construction, maintenance and repair activities or mining areas with most of the victims involving male, older, and Hispanics (Mervis, 2014). Further, as per the researchers studies among construction workers, around 81% of the injuries were estimated that was treated in the emergency departments of the U.S. caused by the fall from the ladders. Falls are one of the leading causes behind the occurrence of the unintentional injuries, as well as, the deaths nationwide, with about 43% of the cases involving fatal falls that had occurred in the last decade were those involving the ladder, as per the studies so far conducted. Near about 34,000 cases involving the nonfatal injuries caused by the ladder related falls were treated in the emergency departments of the hospital during the year of 2011. Hence, there is a need of the development of the new methods and techniques for the prevention of the ladder falls to reduce the occurrence, as well as, the risks associated with the ladder fall injuries and fatalities (Michael Treml, 2014). Prevention of falling from the ladders: It is clear and evident from various studies that the problem of ladder falls is getting worse day by day, with the incidence of staggering 500 falls from the ladder in between the years from 2012 to 2014. Hence, there is a requirement and need for adopting certain measures that will prevent the ladder falls and hence reducing the injuries and fatalities caused by the ladder falls (OSullivan, Wakai, OSullivan, Luke, Cusack, 2004). Various key points can be adopted for reducing the incidence of the ladder falls, which includes the improvement of the the design, as well as, the mechanism of ladders for better and safe use by the consumer through proper reviewing of the stability and strength of the design of the ladder design. Deep understanding and knowledge related to how people actually work and use the ladders and, most necessarily, how the people get injured while using the ladders is the main key for designing the safer and new climbing products (Becker, 2001). It has been obser ved that near about 50% of the reported injuries caused by the ladder falls were due to the awkward size, as well as, weight of the ladder used. The manufacturing of the lighter ladder is an easy solution to solve this problem. We must support the standards and regulations related to the use of the ladder improvements and enhancements for better compliance and manufacturing of the ladder. The use of features like gutter guards or anchor points can supporting the safe use of ladder. Improvement of the surfaces that are being used around ladders, like using anti-slip floor coverings, as well as, surface treatments will help in reducing the risk of falls and hence injuries caused by the ladder falls. Promotion regarding the use of protective and safe equipment while using ladders is necessary with respect to the domestic context. Public education about the safe use of the ladder, as well as, related to the public awareness with respect to the dangers and risks associated with the use o f the ladders in the domestic setting should be carried out for the prevention of the ladder falls occurring in the domestic environement (Campbell, 2012). Promoting alternatives like services and resources to the ladder use that are available to various domestic users of the ladders within the community can also help in reduction of the domestic ladder falls. It is the high time to get these messages and measures out because individuals are getting up to the ladder, cleaning out their windows and gutters, putting up the Christmas lights, and there is an expectation of an onslaught related to the ladder falls. Hence, the two most important things that are required prominently in the reduction of the falls and injuries occurring due to the ladders are training and innovation, which will help in saving the lives of the people (Brauer, 2011). Critical Reflection On Behavioral Theory Of Firm †Free Samples

Question: Discuss about the Critical Reflection On Behavioral Theory Of Firm. Answer: The chosen paper proposes an analytical structure to identify the behavioral roots of the performance of the superior (Lechner Gudmundsson, 2014). It the chosen article the behavioral refers to the being about the mental process. These aspects of the behavioral defines the ability of the firm in pursuing and competing the superior opportunities. The analytical structure present in the research paper is used in identifying the mental process that is important to the performance of the firm and reliably manages by the leaders. The key insight of this structure focuses on the cognitive distant as the superior opportunities. However, the paper offers a whole study of the behavioral theory based on the superior opportunities and strategic implementation of the same. The paper presents that the premises of the behavioral theory of superior performance emphasizes looking beyond the boundaries. The paper is focused on the failures of the behavioral aspects that bound the competition for the superior opportunities. Considering this particular logic, the assessment on the failures of the behavioral aspects reveals that the same limit the pursuit of the firms distant opportunities, which are distant (Gavetti et al., 2012). The study further presents implications, which are twofold. The first aspect of the implication refers that the tendency of the superior opportunities are cognitively distant. Secondly, the superior opportunities need to be attainable in terms of being strategically relevant. This implication summarizes the possibility of the development of the behavioral conception of the strategic agency, which refers to the focal challenges to pursue the cognitively distant opportunities. The reason behind this is the strong challenge to manage t he cognitive distant are categorized by common cognitive roots which is defined by the management of the mental association. In addition, the discussed model in the paper addresses processes that are associative in their various manifestations and provide a proper micro foundational basis to the behavioral theory of strategy and the conception related to the agency (Greve, 2013). The superior opportunities for the studies of the behavioral theory of strategy are real as it is hypothesized and the traits, which define the same, are apparent. On the other hand, the discussed model of the mind introduces central process that needs to be characterized more deeply and entirely. In addition, the effort and the emotional element of the associative thought process is not been examined in the paper, which could affect the foresight as well as the persuasion. However, there is lack of the future research in the paper in order to capture the necessary aspects of the associative thinking process in terms of relationship with distant persuasion and foresight (Brandenburger Vinokurova, 2012). Again, connection of micro level insight regarding associative process along with more aggregate evidence and perspective is required to strategize to measure the competency of the leaders in order to avoid behavioral failures. However, the research findings show various drawbacks of the model of the mind as well as the behavioral theory of strategy (Winter, 2012). There are much room for debate as the recommendation of the problems are not provided. References: Brandenburger, A., Vinokurova, N. (2012).
